: UnGoogleable Research Paper Final Draft

Color Barrier Michael Bradshaw May 13, 2011 Period 3 Research Paper

Many years before the color barrier was broken the great Jackie Robinson wasworking a low paid job and eventually worked his way up wanting to be a baseball player.Jackie Roosevelt Robinson was born January 31, 1919, in Cairo, Georgia. He was thefirst African-American to play in baseball’s major leagues. He was named the region’sMost Valuable Player in baseball in 1938. His older brother inspired him to keep going inlife. The color barrier was created to symbolize black people can not play baseball, do to racism.

A little bit before he entered the big leagues, Jackie continued his education at theUniversity of California, Los Angeles. Where he became the University’s first student to winvarsity letters in four sports. According to his past, people know he was a good athletictalent before he even entered the Major Leagues. Jackie started his career with theKansas city Royals. Where and when he broke the color barrier on April 15, 1947.

According to the color barrier, it didn’t stop Jackie’s intentions to be the first one tobreak it. Nothing got in the way of his career. Mr. Robinson had tremendous speed andalso hitting abilities others did not have. There is nothing Jackie did not or could notpossibly do. The color barrier was based on white men not thinking black men could makeit in baseball. There are many factual things and also quotes that Jackie Robinson said. One quote that he said was “Playing sports can be a good career because of the fame and theglory you can have from being the best player in the game.” What made him so fantasticwas the vision, speed, and plate discipline. It was what helped him get into the hall of fameand of course breaking the color barrier.

Many years after Mr. Robinson retired, no one came close to breaking all threerecords that he set for most hits, bases stolen, and also best on base percentage. Thecolor barrier did not stop him from wanting to play baseball. He just wanted to do somethinghe was outstanding at. Now because of him breaking the color barrier, other manyAfrican-Americans now are playing in the major leagues.

My UnGoogleable Research for an Eight-Year Old

I have looked up the name to a baseball player that is African American and was really good at what he did. But they wouldnt let him play because he was a colored person, so by the time his career was over there was many many black baseball players in baseball. There is a lot of good things to see on the interenet about him. I found a lot of research that is going to help me on my research paper that I have to do. This happened a long time ago before I was even born. Now there is many different races that play in the major leagues. It is important to know this information because when it comes for the due date of my paper it has to be atleast at grade level!

UnGoogleable Research Paper Highlight Reflection

AWESOME HIGHLIGHTER!
Reading and highlighting the sources for my UnGoogleable research paper helped me to point out the obvious. It really brought out the main ideas that I needed. I learned more about the color barrier and some of the pages caught my attention, the facts are going to make my paper a lot easier for me. I can break my information into three sections, one sections is the time line when racism began to the end. Another section is the subtitles that are located on the left side on the page and has links to them which will provide me more information. The third section is the closing of the last year the color barrier ended, also more African Americans started to play baseball to the point where there was no problem. My next step to write a research paper should be to keep track of everything to put it in order.

UnGoogleable Research Paper Website Selection Reflection

Today in class, I was doing research on Jackie Robinson and why the color barrier even existence. To search for websites, I looked on some search engines in Google to find out more about what was going on. When I found a website related to my focus question, I was thrilled to see a lot of information that can help me out on my paper. I knew some of the websites I found were unacceptable because there was little information on the pages and couldn't tell me anything that I needed to know. I know the websites I selected are good because there was subtitles to go with the research. Tomorrow, I expect that Ms. Priester will tell me to work hard, also to keep looking for better information.

UnGoogleable Research – What I Already Know

My focus question is “Why was the color barrier in professional baseball created?" I already know who was involved in the color barrier which was Jackie Robinson. I also know that he broke the color barrier in 1945. Additionally, Jackie Robinson was the first African American baseball player ever to play in the major leagues, he also went been to six world series appearances but only won one of those six. By doing research, I hope to learn more about what was going on before and after he made it to the majors, also exploring the time line through the years 1940-1950.

UnGoogleable Research Paper – Website Evaluation Tips

I had asked my houseparent Mr. English if my websites were a good resource page and his response was, "Yes, but I know there can be more websites for you that can show you and tell you what was going on during that time frame, which will give you a lot more information." I am going to write about the color barrier and why it occured. I did it so people can know more about it for one, also to tell people about it just in case they didn't have a clue about the color barrier that had to deal with Jackie Robinson. I interviewed Jabriel Jordan and he said it is a great topic but the websites I showed him wouldn't be much support to finish the entire paper. This advice will help me write my paper by going to look for more so I my paper can be tremendously detailed.
